The electrification of heavy goods vehicles is a major challenge for the transport sector. But without appropriate infrastructures, this transition remains complex. With this in mind, Bump, founded in 2021, has launched an intelligent recharging service dedicated to heavy goods vehicles, meeting the specific needs of transport operators. In an interview with TRM24, Tom Lyonnet, transport and logistics market manager at Bump, looks back at the solutions offered and the challenges faced by the company.
Charging solutions for every type of vehicle
Bump supports transport professionals, whether they work with light commercial vehicles (LCVs) or industrial vehicles (IVs). The type of recharge depends on the usage profile:
- The more a vehicle is driven, the greater the recharging power required, from 22 to 400 kWh.
- Each project is tailor-made, taking into account the specific features of the park, the tours and the constraints of the site.
- Bump is capable of deploying complex projects, even in constrained logistical environments, requiring the installation of a new transformer, for example.
"Our strength lies in tailoring each project to the customer's actual needs and projected fleet evolution."

A multi-stage installation process
Installing a charging station doesn't just happen. At Bump, every project follows a structured, multi-stage process.
1. Design and analysis
This first phase allows us to study the customer's needs in depth:
- Number of vehicles, departure and arrival times.
- Distances covered and recharge times required.
- Estimated consumption in kWh.
"This step makes it possible to establish an initial IRVE model, anticipating future fleet developments."
2. Sizing and layout
The aim is to define the optimum location for the terminals in relation to the power supply and the site's operational constraints, while optimizing costs.
"We oversize the power input to anticipate future needs, thus guaranteeing the sustainability of the installations."
3. Deployment
Once the project has been validated, Bump takes charge of the entire installation, under the supervision of a single contact.
4. Operation and maintenance
After installation, the priority is to ensure optimum availability of the terminals:
- Data analysis (consumption, alerts, costs).
- Integration of smart charging to optimize energy costs.
- Preventive maintenance with a monitoring system to limit downtime.
"We're aiming for an availability rate of over 98%, which is essential to avoid any loss of business."
Centralized management of complex projects
Installing a charging station involves coordinating several players (energy suppliers, terminal suppliers, installers, etc.). Bump simplifies this complexity by centralizing all the necessary expertise.
"We remain the customer's single point of contact, even when we call on specialist partners."
Bump offers personalized advice, while remaining energy agnostic. The customer retains control of his energy contract, while Bump selects the terminals best suited to the project.
A complete range of after-sales services
To guarantee the longevity of your installations, Bump offers :
- A fixed maintenance package to help carriers control costs over the long term.
- An intelligent supervision service that automates refill management to reduce TCO (total cost of ownership).
- The possibility ofintegrating the supervision system with the customer's existingmanagement software (WMS, TMS, FMS).
"The aim is to simplify fleet management and automate processes, while guaranteeing predictable costs."
Controlling cost per kWh: a key challenge
Cost per kWh is a key indicator of the viability of a recharging project.
"Above €0.35 per kWh, profitability becomes difficult. That's why we optimize every project upstream."
Bump offers financing solutions to reduce initial investments and guarantee an optimized cost per kilometer.
Tracking tools for optimized management
To help carriers track their consumption, Bump provides :
- Detailed reporting on cost per kWh.
- Integration of software for energy management and electricity purchasing on the spot market.
- A digital platform centralizing all charging data, whether at depots or public stations.
"We know that transport costs are a key criterion for our customers. Our platform enables them to manage their consumption and optimize their costs."
Towards smarter, more sustainable mobility
With its tailor-made approach and cutting-edge expertise, Bump supports transport companies in their energy transition, offering them viable, scalable solutions.
