🌳 Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from "last mile" transport

In Paris, one in five vehicles carries parcels for delivery. With 60,000 HGVs and 5 million weekly flows, "last mile" delivery accounts for around 20% of traffic, takes up 30% of road space and, above all, is responsible for 25% of greenhouse gas emissions, according to figures published by the Comité d'analyse stratégique.

With online orders growing at a rate of 20% a year, and deliveries having to be faster and faster, the number of vans is increasing, the number of journeys less and less optimized, and the areas to be delivered less and less restricted.

It is therefore urgent to rethink the current delivery model and make it more sustainable, so that "last mile" transport does not become an environmental disaster.

Bump is already helping Star Service, Top Chrono and Stuart to electrify their fleets by electrifying spaces on their sites. What's more, we're installing rapid recharging infrastructures right in the heart of town, which can be reserved remotely, so that they can charge up without losing time during their rounds.

Since then, TopChrono has committed to electrifying their fleet of 500 vehicles.

🚖 Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from VTCs

Like "last mile" carriers, the greenhouse gas emissions caused by VTCs are considerable. Between 2016 and 2019, the number of drivers doubled in France, from 15,000 in 2016 to 30,000 in 2019.

According to calculations by a coalition of NGOs, Uber emits as much CO2 as 250,000 cars every year in Paris and London.

Given the distance travelled every day, VTCs and last-mile carriers could easily switch to electric vehicles, but today they face a number of obstacles:

  • A rather low terminal availability rate.
  • Kiosks that can't be booked remotely, which can cost professionals a lot of time and money.
  • A service billed by time, not by kWh (not practical for professionals who reason in km). What's more, this price is often excessive.

To solve this problem, Bump is already supporting Bolt and Marcel by installing fast, reservable charging stations in city centers, at attractive prices, dedicated to their activities.

🤝 Supporting electric car-sharing vehicles

Car-sharing differs from traditional rental by making vehicles available 24/7 on a self-service basis, with conditions of use that allow journeys to be made without handing over the keys.

In this way, car-sharing reduces dependence on the car and encourages people to switch to other modes of mobility. In this way, it reduces energy consumption and pollutant emissions.

To encourage this model, Bump accompanies 600 Renault Zity (Renault's car-sharing service) around Paris every day.

🌟 Bump's offer to meet these challenges

Bump's main mission is therefore to help last-mile carriers and VTCs make the switch to electric vehicles, and to encourage the development of car-sharing vehicles in cities.

For this, Bump offers :

  • Fast-charging infrastructures in city centers. Today, Bump is the fast-charging leader in Paris, with the ambition of becoming the leader in Lyon, Marseille and Bordeaux in the very near future.
  • Charging stations that can be reserved remotely, so that professionals can organize their errands and rounds without wasting time.
  • Billing by kWh, so that professionals who are used to thinking in terms of kilometers can easily find their way around our pricing system.

For professionals, car-sharing users and all electric vehicle owners, recharging in the city should become as easy as filling up with petrol.
